Bio:

Being an artistic type from an early age, it was somewhat inevitable a creative career was in the offing. As my initial interest lay in drawing, I studied Art & Design to Diploma Level ( 1988-90 ). Trying everything from ceramics, life drawing, graphic design to art history, it was during this time I was introduced to photography and captured my first half decent image, which sparked an enthusiasm and curiosity for all things lens based.

Keeping my options open by continuing to learn a broad scope of skills alongside photography ( Design, Typo, Animation, Video editing ), I finally made the decision to focus purely on taking pictures ( Ba Art & Design Photography 1994 ). Knowing this wasn't quite enough, I was then fortunate to be awarded a scholarship from The Independent newspaper to study at the renowned Post Grad. Dip in Photojournalism ( Cardiff 1995 ), as taught by some of the World’s leading photographers, Picture Editors and Curators.

I then embarked on my freelance career ( Sept. 1995) working on features for The Daily Telegraph, before moving to back oop North to provide editorial coverage for a number of key national magazines, alongside some teaching up to A level.

In 2008 I opened my own Gallery in the heart of historic Whitby ( my home town ), not only showcasing my work but also acting as a base camp for post production et all.

During this time, I’ve gained a huge amount of experience and worked for some very high profile clients, meaning I can tackle most subject matter to the same exacting standards, all done with the utmost discretion.

My style is primarily documentary, with a bias towards editorial features & picture stories, but I also thrive on the discipline of fulfilling a brief, so relish working closely with clients to achieve the desired imagery. Wherever I point my cameras, I endeavor to bring passion and insight to my photography, combined with the sheer delight of simply noticing things.

While easy going & relaxed, with more than a touch of the ‘surf dude’ (with a tweedy / mountain twist), don't be fooled by the laid back demeanor, as I aim for visual flair and technical excellence in all that I do.
