Heather Burning
The North Yorkshire Moors are the largest expanse of Heather Moorland in England. In order to maintain the young Heather growth, small areas are burnt in a strictly controlled manner at specific times of the year. .
An area burnt the previous day.
Before any burn, the selected patch is topped off to provide a fire break, thus containing the fire.
The fires are quick and over in no time.
Old woody heather is not only a huge fire risk, little wildlife benefits from the few flowers it produces.
If a burn does jump a firebreak, the gamekeepers are quickly on it to prevent any dangerous spread.
All areas burnt are meticulously logged.
The burns only take the old heather out and do not penetrate deep. Here the peat can clearly be seen to retain it’s moisture directly after the burn.
A kestrel hovers in the distance. Moorland gamekeepers have recently come under heavy criticism from certain quarters. However it is utterly unfair to tarnish all with the same brush, as time spent on these moors clearly demonstrates a rich diversity of wildlife.
The gamekeeper checks all the areas burnt that day are free of any lingering fires.
1 day after a burn, and the old woody heather has already become covered in spider webs.
Dogs - Man's Best Friend
The aim of each portrait session is to capture the different aspects of your pooch's personality. After an initial consultation, we decide on a location of choice where the dog is happiest, giving us optimal chances to capture a wide variety of images.
As a longtime Lab owner, I'm well versed with dogs & bring these skills to the forefront of every shoot.

Ruswarp Mart
Ruswarp Market, on the outskits of Whitby, is the biggest livestock mart for miles around. Towards the back end of the year, they hold the annual sheep sales, which attract farmers from all around the North.
Country Shows
The Country Shows in & around the North Yorkshire Moors are really quite special. As the agricultural communities are extremley scattered & remote, the shows offer an opportunity to gather & enjoy a well deserved break from everyday farm life. Featuring Farndale, Danby, Hinderwell & Egton.

Kanchenchunga
The third highest mountain in the world, Kanchenjunga (The Five Treasures of the High Snow) lies on the border between India, Nepal & Tibet.
Everest
The idea was to get a good look at Everest, whilst avoiding the obvious touristy routes. This meant walking in Hillary's footsteps from Jiri, rather than flying in to Lukla & the heading off up a side valley for uninterrupted views from a giddy 5500m. A total of 28 days were spent on the trial.
Nanda Devi
Nanda Devi (The Bliss Giving Godess ) is the highest mountain wholly within India.
